Life is good!

Our rain catcher system in action
We are still at Dakiti, Culebra anchorage and are enjoying the snorkeling, the scenery, and life in general! The weather has been great with sunny skies...only yesterday did we get a nasty storm with heavy winds and rain that lasted all night...today the sky is clear again, but the wind hasn't let down much. Everything has its good points though...the rain brought much needed water and we were able to check out our rain catcher system in action...it worked flawlessly, so we now know for sure we can catch water to top up the water tanks without having to be at a marina. (We usually put the hose from the rain catcher straight into our water tank, but decided to use a gallon jug this time to see how much water we can collect during heavy rain.) This will be especially handy when we are anchored off that lonely beautiful beach "out there", of which there are many :) Of course we filter and chlorinate our water! Yes...we could try and use our water maker, but that is just another piece of equipment that needs to be replaced in the long run...the water maker on ORION is quite old and quite frankly we have no desire to look into it right now. Luckily water is available almost everywhere throughout the Caribbean islands, so we will be able to fill our tanks (we have three, total volume of approx. 140 gallons) when we need to...so why fret over the water maker?...another piece of equipment that needs to be tended to on a daily basis and requires to run a generator, both of which we can live without...that's why :)

The fresh winds of around 25 to 30 knots with occasional higher gusts also are beneficial to us...this morning we shut off our wind generator, because our batteries are uberfull...the fridge is still nice and cold and will kick on once in a while...the solar panel is enough right now to keep the batteries topped up...ahhhh...it's a good thing to be able to sit back and relax when part of the equipment is shut off...and to still have enough energy to run everything :) Life is good!

This morning my captain went fishing for the first time in a long time...he didn't catch anything, but that is not important...important is that he went fishing!...I know he will catch us a fish sooner rather than later and his happiness is priceless :)...

Since I am not into going fishing I made us a hearty breakfast with fresh diced sweet potatoes, roast beef hash (canned), onions, garlic, spices and embedded a "nest of three eggs" in it...we had a feast when he returned...too bad I forgot to take a picture (!)...next time for sure :). We try to eat healthy on ORION...actually we made it our lifestyle to eat healthy...that way it becomes natural and requires no extra effort! So far it's working and my sweetie is even getting used to home made hummus, apple slices and such for him "foreign" food items...well, I guess there is no way to run away from it on ORION, hahahaha ;) We will be off to explore some of those lonely and beautiful beaches I spoke of earlier as soon as we have picked up the new freezer...hopefully by the end of the week :) Stay tuned please...
