Salinas-Coffin Island and back, Jan.16-17, 2010

Guess where we went sailing last weekend? How did you know? Of course it was Coffin Island here we come again...it's not a curse, it's extreme fun and relaxation :o) After a Friday night filled with the smooth taste of Ron Barcelo Anejo and the good company of our sailor friend Klaus, who arrived from Germany earlier in the week, the Captain and his First Mate woke up to an overcast Saturday morning and left the marina around 0900 with course to Coffin Island. Our beloved dolphins came to play with Orion's bow wave again and this time they showed us their youngest offspring, a tiny baby dolphin! They were teaching the baby how to jump and breath...it was a beautiful site and we again feel so honored to be with them. They appeared from seemingly nowhere, performed their marvelous acrobatics for about twenty minutes or so, and then disappeared into the blue sea as quietly and surprisingly as they had appeared earlier. Got a few camera shots, but due to a lack of coordination (presumably from the consumption of said Ron Barcelo) the First Mate was not able to climb to the bowsprit (front end of the boat) to take the usual close-ups. Ahh well...such is a sailor's life, hahahaha.

Fast rewind to Jan 06, 2010…Salinas tiny sailboats

Need to update the blog with this almost forgotten entry! We planned to go for a day sail on Jan. 6, also known as Three Kings’ Day. As it turned out the day was a pretty rainy day which we nevertheless enjoyed by watching our favorite movie “Captain Ron” on Orion. The weather cleared later in the day and this is when it all happened! Going for a walk just before sunset, I couldn’t believe my eyes when all of a sudden I saw the tiniest sailboat sailing up and down in the marina…and then there was another one! Finally I heard a buzzing sound and realized they were remote controlled sailboats. I went over to their “masters in control” who informed me that they belong to a special club. How fun! With their permission I took photos of the guys and their little sailboats and here they are for you to enjoy also! So you see, we had a sailing experience after all on that wet day, which is to say that there is never a dull day in Salinas :o)

Coffin Island…here we come again _/) January 9-10, 2010

Coffin Island is our favorite destination as you may have noticed, and we try to sail there on most weekends. So we left our slip at Marina Salinas around 0850 on Saturday morning and set sail soon thereafter. We had a nice breeze, which carried us under full sail to our anchorage at Coffin Island, where we arrived at 1150…three hours of a beautiful voyage with only the sound of the waves accompanying us. It doesn’t get better than that! We enjoyed the rest of the day relaxing and at day’s end watched yet another one of those spectacular sunsets that we have become accustomed to, but will never ever take for granted!

Happy New Year 2010! Sailing Salinas-Coffin Island and back, January 2-4, 2010

So here we are again after the holidays. Kids went back to college on New Year’s Day, which thankfully fell on a Friday…in other words “Oriontime” for us, escaping from a painfully empty house! We spent the first night of twenty-ten on Orion at the slip after running into Paul and Lynn and joining them for BBQ at the marina. Saturday morning it was “dock lines away” at 0930 (9:30 a.m.) and off to a new adventure at Coffin Island, our beloved destination.
